La Contenta, founded in 2014, is a group of authentic Mexican restaurants in the heart of the Lower East Side and Greenwich Village of New York City. It is 100% Mexican owned and is one of New York’s most beloved destinations for great food, inventive drinks, an impressive curation of alternative agave spirits, and a fun atmosphere.

You'll often find bartender Guadalupe Toxtli, originally from Cholula, Puebla, behind the bar, expertly crafting delicious drinks. His journey began as a bar back in a cigar lounge, where he immersed himself in the world of spirits, exploring over 400 types of whiskey, cognacs, and rums. After honing his skills for a decade in a British Indian fusion restaurant, specializing in gin and whiskey-based cocktails, Guadalupe now brings his expertise to La Contenta. Here, he seamlessly integrates a diverse range of spirits, including mezcal, tequila, Mexican whiskeys, and gins, infusing the menu with his passion and creativity.

La Contenta's vibrant yet cozy atmposphere sets the stage for a great date night or night out with good friends. True to its name, the restaurant exudes an atmosphere of joy and warmth, thanks to the dedicated staff who ensure every visit is a delightful experience.

Bartender/Partner Alex Valencia began his career in the service industry in 2003, and had the opportunity to follow his true passion – mixology – three years later. In 2008, he started working alongside some of New York City’s top-rated mixologists from bars such as PDT, Little Branch, and Apotheke. During that time, Alex was able to hone his skills as well as learn and create new techniques and recipes that have become his signatures. Alex’s limitless creativity and talent quickly garnered recognition from industry peers, local and international press, as well as extensive praise from the public.
